I live in a sleepy Midwestern town—not the kind of place where weird things happen. Life is routine: work the late shift at the diner, come home, unwind with a bit of TV, repeat. The most exciting part of my week used to be watching reruns of The Office with a beer in hand.
But lately…
I haven’t been sleeping.
Because someone—or something—has been watching me.
The Roof Across the Street
Across from my modest home in a small Illinois town stands an old, decaying house. It’s been abandoned since a brutal windstorm nearly tore the roof off years ago. The structure’s crumbling, the windows are boarded, and the yard is overgrown. It’s the kind of house you’d expect to see in a ghost story.
And now I’m living one.
Because for the last eight weeks, like clockwork, I’ve spotted a figure—tall, unmoving—standing on what remains of that rotting roof.
Always at 2:00 AM.
He Never Moves… Until He Does
The first time I noticed him, I chalked it up to exhaustion. I work nights and often stay up scrolling my phone. I assumed the shadows from the streetlight or tree branches were playing tricks on me.
But then I started checking—every night.
And he was always there.
Silent. Still. Looking up at the stars. Like he was waiting.
At first, I thought it might be a squatter or some local prankster. But the place is sealed tight. No ladder. No open entry. And besides, who stands perfectly still in the dark for weeks on end?
I Started Digging
I asked neighbors. They told me the house had been empty since “Gary the recluse” moved away after the storm—something about losing his mind. Some said he believed the stars were “sending messages” to him. Others just said he was “weird, not dangerous.”
But that doesn’t explain the eyes.
Nothing does.
I Saw His Face
One night, frustrated and scared, I threw a small rock in his direction—not to hurt, just to test. That’s when he moved. Slowly, unnaturally. His head turned like a broken marionette. And I saw them—eyes like searchlights, white and blinding.
No blinking. No irises. Just glowing, inhuman light.
I felt frozen. Like my body forgot how to move. Somehow, I backed inside and locked everything. But I knew something had changed.
He saw me.
Closer and Closer
The next night, the roof across the street was empty. I thought I was safe. But then I checked the neighboring garage. He was there now—closer to my house.
And this time, he wasn’t staring at the stars.
He was looking directly at my window.
The Authorities Were No Help
I called the sheriff. They checked the condemned house. No one there. No signs of activity. They told me I was “overworked” and suggested I talk to someone.
I haven’t left the house in days.
Now I hear tapping on the glass at night. The lights flicker every time the clock hits 2. My phone glitches when I try to film. Even the dog next door won’t stop barking in the middle of the night.
A Final Plea
I’m writing this now because I’m out of options. If you’ve ever seen something—anything—like this, please reach out. Has anyone else ever spotted a glowing-eyed figure on a rooftop at 2AM?
Is this a ghost? A shadow person? Something else?
Or am I next?
⚠️ If you ever notice someone staring up at the sky from a rooftop in the dead of night… don’t look back.
Don’t acknowledge him.
And whatever you do—don’t let him see you first.
